Jacob Bettinelli 吳柏賢 is currently undertaking his Masters in Performance with Alison Wells and Simon Lepper at the Royal College of Music, where he gained his Bachelor of Music degree in 2017. He was a 2017-18 Jessie Sumner Scholar, and this year he is a Sussex Scholar supported by Tiong Kiu King Award. His study is also generously supported by K. Wah International Vocal Scholarship. He is an alumnus of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme.

Jacob has participated in numerous masterclasses, most notably with Christa Ludwig, Susan Bullock, Sumi Jo, Thomas Quasthoff, Roger Vignoles, Patricia MacMahon, Lynn Eustis, Kim Begley.

Jacob has won many awards including the ABRSM 60th Anniversary National High Achievers award, first prize at the Hong Kong Youth Singing Festival (Art Songs and Chinese Art Songs Classes), first prize in the open Male Voice Class at both 60th and 62nd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, for each of which he was awarded the prestigious Barbara Fei Vocal Scholarship. In 2015, Jacob was the sole full Musical Odyssey scholarship recipient which has enabled him to participate in master classes with Susan Bullock and Jenny Drivala in Nafplio, Greece. He was awarded both the Talent Unlimited Charity Prize and the Stonevale Concert Series Prize.

Jacob is also active in both concert and recital; his repertoire encompasses a wide range of genres. He made his professional debut as a baritone soloist singing Handel’s Messiah with Hong Kong Voices, under the direction of Ken Lam. Some other highlights include a concert in Lucca, Italy premiering music by Puccini (senior) under Bruno Nicoli (La Scala), Faure’s Requiem, Beethoven’s song cycle ‘An die ferne Geliebte’ at Beethoven Summer Festival, Brahms Song project at Aldeburgh Festival, Yellow River Cantata at Sheldoian Theatre, Oxford, Faith of The Nation gala at Cadogan Hall and the British Youth Opera concert at the Italian Ambassador’s residence, opera evening at Carlton Club. He has also given recitals at St James’s Piccadilly, Asia House, Victoria & Albert Museum and recorded the baritone solo for a BBC2 TV documentary ‘The story of China’.

Operatic appearances include ‘Masetto’ in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Hong Kong City Hall. His London professional appearances include ‘Schaunard’ in Puccini’s La Bohème, ‘Uberto’ in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona at Wilton’s Music Hall, ‘Achilla’ in Handel’s Giulio Cesare ‘Captain Corcoran’ in Sullivan’s H.M.S Pinafore in the RCM opera scenes and ‘Demetrius’ in the world-premiere of Puck composed by Lycke & Berv for the RCM Great Exhibitionists series.
